This is one of the traditional yoga forms taught by famous yoga teacher BKS Iyengar. Iyengar yoga is known for its precision and detailed body movements. The teachers share a lot of knowledge in each class. They hold each pose for a set amount of time. This form of yoga attracts the advanced yogis owing to its precision and depth of knowledge. But anyone can start at level 1. They say Iyengar yoga is the most effective style for those suffering from injuries.
4 .Astanga yoga
Astanga folks follow a simple laid out path for poses. This is another traditional style and may not be suited for all. Asthangis are known for their perfectionist attitude towards their practice. In each class, you get to practice the same poses, improving your pose with each attempt. The idea is to attain perfection in poses and generate internal heat.
This is a derivative brand of yoga created specifically for those who like predictability and a simple set of exercises. They practise this type of yoga in a room heated to 105 degrees. There is a specific set of 26 steps and two breathing routines performed in each session.
This style was created specifically to help injured people improve their mobility and relaxation. You get to hold a pose for a long time, giving a chance for your body to call upon the parasympathetic nervous system to help you get into a deeply relaxing state.
The key is to find a yoga form that suits your individual style and stick with it for a year or two. Then, you can explore the more traditional forms to improve your proficiency.
